Post Hello, Na'vi Otherkin here
Greetings all,

I've lurked for a little while - I've thought/felt for a considerable time that I am not human, but an elf, specifically (though I have always felt the presence of a tail). But I have come to a recent realization. Having seen James Cameron's masterpiece, Avatar, I identify as Na'vi 'kin. My username means Na'vi Spirit, in my native tongue. If you haven't seen the movie yet, I highly recommend it!

I have some theories. I think I'm either, perhaps, a Na'vi reborn as a human (I believe in reincarnation), or simply a Na'vi on a spiritual level and in my mind, or a Na'vi mind in a human Avatar. In the case of the latter, I feel like that my people will come and reclaim me as their own one day* (I'm semi-aware of my Na'vi body, my true form). Either way, my Na'vi name (my true name - please respect this) is Shey'bu. At any rate, I have a lot of Na'vi feeling and feel linked to and I identify with (I'd go so far to say as one of) them.

* Edit, to clarify: This is just a feeling, or how I like to think - I am aware that Na'vi are a fictional species.

Pleased to meet you all. (: I hope to make friends and meet new people here, and I wish you a Happy New Year.

Hello,

I confess I sort of expected a warmer reception. :<

I appreciate how my species might come across (I note that that's the third version of your post in ten minutes), but I've read the Rules in an effort to fit in and they say "2.3 Do not attack people for their opinions and beliefs. You are free to disagree with someone, but that doesn't include belittling and name calling." You might have your private opinion about someone who identifies as Na'vi 'kin, but your post seems unwarranted. :/

Either way, hello, thank you for your reply (I love your signature - it reminds me of Na'vi philosophy and beliefs!) Anyway, I don't want to cause conflict (I guess quoting the rules like that as a newbie is out of place and probably seems presumptuous, but your post is somewhat upsetting), only to join the community. (:

Why hello there, and welcome to the forum, although I fear your stay will be a rather short one. Allow me to explain to you the definition of otakukin.

Ok, I won't bother, you defined it yourself.

Oh yes, that was a very nice movie. Sadly, after seeing even the commercials I expected some otakukin to come... Thanks for proving me right ^^ and a warm welcome to you while it lasts :)

Otakukin is possibly a good term for it. (:

I love the Zelda series. <3 Ocarina of Time is my favorite one.

Congratulations on being the first in what will no doubt be a long line of trolls and poser-kin.

I'd like to point out a fallacy in your lie, as well. Only humans, in the movie, had the technology required to create Avatars.

Wait...you openly acknowledge being otakukin? Is...there something here I am missing? Just of pure curiosity, I'd like you to tell me one thing, what do you expect of this forum? Do you know what kind of people are on this forum? Frankly, I am flabbergasted at you openly admitting it.

I'm sorry if you found my reply harsh but compared to how some others can be, I wasn't very negative... I'll admit - it would be awesome to be Na'vi - but they are fictional, as far as I can tell. I'd also like to point out your true name and that in your language, the letter 'y' does not get cut short (if I remember correctly.) Letters like 'k' and 'p', however, do sometimes.
Just thought you might like to know!
:)

I'm a bit surprised at your response but I actually kind of respect it. Now, what makes you think your spirit/soul/whatever is from a place featured in a work of fiction?

I've seen the movie and I'm aware of the technological levels of both races involved. (: It's just a feeling I have sometimes. I'm also aware that my name doesn't exactly meet the rules of the language.

I amended the otakukin post, actually, just as you were making yours - you all know more about these things than me, I think.

I expected that I could join and try to contribute and participate in the discussions like anyone else, so long as I was polite, typed properly, etcetera. :/ I expected that the people were open-minded.

It's based on the feeling and some thinking - as I said, I previously felt that I was an elf. Elves and vampires, too, are fictional.

I really don't want to start anything. (: I didn't expect this when I joined up.

Well, as an otakukin, you instantly breach the morals. But then you admit it openly, and get quite some respect for that... A bit paradoxical, but...yeah. This...I don't know what to say, really.

Oh cheese...the O-word was used. "Open-minded". That word is almost a curse word nowadays.

...point.

Yes but not all elves feel that they are elves because of reincarnation. What makes you think your soul is reincarnated through a glorious movie?

It's hard for me to explain. I just feel Na'vi and identify as Na'vi. I'm trying to understand how being a vampire or an elf is any more legitimate. I expected that the people would be a little more accepting. I'm sorry if I have caused any offence. >:
