 Re: New member
Sweetheart, if there's one thing more insane than even otherkin, it's otakukin. I don't think you caused any offense...but you've sure become a topic of heated discussion!

Tirea Na'vi wrote: I'm trying to understand how being a vampire or an elf is any more legitimate. Ah. This, then, is the main reason you joined OK.com. The Na'vi thing was undoubtedly just a way to attract attention so you could have a debate. Honestly though, even though you're figured out, I feel like I have to respect you on some level. o.o

 Re: New member
I realize that otakukin is generally considered a bit more extreme or insane than otherkin. (: But I don't think they're poles apart.
No, the reason I signed up was because I wanted to join the community and try to participate a little. I identify as Na'vi but I can see how it seems otherwise - I'm just trying to defend myself a little, in the face of some harsh-ish posts. (:

 Re: New member
Well, "otakukin" is in fact a quite harsh accusation around here - and with good reason.

"A pole apart"? How so?

I was given a hard time when I first joined to, and guess what... I DESERVED IT! This is a forum for serious people, and, forgive me for saying this, but I find it hard to take you seriously. The movie Avatar is fiction, so therefore you are not said fictional character. I do wish people gave you more time to discover yourself (they have been very patient with me) and hope you enjoy your stay, and consider other possibilities, or else you might get labeled a and get ... -Raven

 Re: New member
Personally, I don't think vampires are legitimate and I don't think spiritual elves are either... The thing is, is that there are some ways of... sort of explaining it spiritually whereas there really is none I can think of for what you are claiming. Now, if you had said you felt like you identified with the Na'vi on a mental level I wouldn't have asked you to explain anything...

 Re: New member
I've only lurked for a little while. (:
With regards to my name, apart from the "B" (there's a "B" in game-canon, actually), it seems perfectly fitting - the apostrophe refers to a glottal stop and not ''being cut short''.
By "I don't think they're poles apart" I mean "I don't think that they're amazingly and totally different things".
I don't believe I'm Jake Sully or any of the named fictional characters in the film. I identify more with the fictional Na'vi species in a general sense, on a spiritual and mental level, to the extent that I believe or feel like I once was one. Patience would be very appreciated, as would any advice anyone has to offer (I have a little bit of difficulty discussing abstract concepts like this, so please forgive that). As I said, I've felt elven, but also a tail - maybe someone has a suggestion. Anyway, I would appreciate not being jumped on and not being on the receiving end of harsh posts when I haven't really done anything wrong. I am serious. I'm not intending to offend. (:

 Re: New member
Please answer the question. How are otherkin similar to otakukin? How am I similar to an otakukin?

Just like the belief or feeling that you're not human or the person that you are, or identifying with something else, either a fictional species or a fictional character. It's just my personal opinion that while they're definitely not the same thing, I see them as sort of being linked. I read somewhere that some people consider otakukin a branch or type of otherkin.

 Re: New member
I can also identify with them in some ways but that does not make me one. Maybe you are 'kin of some sort that might be similar to Na'vi? I couldn't say. I think you should look into this more. Inside yourself. Spend more time on it. And I meant glottal stop - I just couldn't think of it. That doesn't change the fact, that it's still fictional.
I'm sorry that I was so quick to accuse...

 Re: New member
I identify with some other things (gryphons, for example, for anyone who is curious), but I'm not those. With elves previously, and with Na'vi now, it felt/feels different, if that makes sense.
I will try to spend some more time reflecting (but if I don't "change" from Na'vi, please don't think poorly of me - I'm not trying to upset anyone, just to participate in a polite way). (: Thank you for your reply. I'm genuinely interested in the community and participating and would like to re-emphasise that I'm not trying to pose or cause trouble.

 Re: New member
I'm curious as to what he knows about the Na'vi anatomy, since that was one of the aspects of the film I was most fascinated with.
Tirea, can you tell me about some more particular topics when it comes to the Na'vi? For example, since the Na'vi are non-placental mammals, why do they have belly-buttons, and why do the females have breasts? Also, how do they mate, since it appeared that the males had no outer genitalia (I noticed their loincloth was completely flat against their skin in that spot).

 Re: New member
That's an incredibly vague similarity to bring up. "Thinking oneself to be other than what one is."
I'm curious. How long has it been since you'd reached this conclusion about yourself? Couldn't have been too long.

 Re: New member
It was a beautiful film. (: I only know what is contained in the companion text and related websites. Perhaps such features are vestigial or decorative (this isn't the exact word I'm looking for, but I can't think). It could be a mostly internal structure, with a retractable or sheathe-type arrangement - or possibly mating is cloacal.
It is a vague similarity, I can see why you said that. But now I have the feeling that you're nitpicking everything I say. I don't feel like I should be made to feel inferior or that I should have to be continually trying to prove myself in my introduction thread - I understand questions of a curious nature, but not being grilled and talked down to. I didn't think the community would be this intolerant. >:
I've been thinking about it since I first saw the previews and trailers, and read the reviews, features, and articles about the film. Even then, something intrigued me. I came to the conclusion for sure or for certain after seeing the film. (: I would like to make a post about this in the Member's History or a similar (or more related) section.
