 Re: Hello, Na'vi Otherkin here
Good point, Miniar! A theory raised in the journal of one of my community members is that perhaps we are alienkin, and that the kind of alien we are is one similar to Na'vi. With such a a vast, almost infinite universe out there, it seems entirely plausible. Anyway, I do not just identify with them - I identify as Na'vi, too. I feel that I am a Na'vi, just as you are Rakshasa / Elf. Perhaps I've been thinking about it too spiritually, however - this could be a psychological thing.
Indeed, Ghotay, I was surprised that blue Western dragons, open-minded vampires, and mixed-species shifters were telling me that I cannot be a Na'vi, because they are fictional. ): I believe that all of these things are fictional, and I believe that just because some of these things (dragons, elves) were conjured up some centuries before Na'vi does not entitle the 'kin to harsh treatment and an air of superiority. It is the same phenomenon that we are experiencing, or the same sort of line that we are thinking along (depending on what you believe or what your opinions are), and I am no less genuine than some of the others here, particularly since I am making a conscious effort to be polite. (:
On the contrary, I have been sure about being Otherkin, something elven or similar, for a good few years now. Seeing the film and then the following period of reflection confirmed my exact species for me. I think that how long such a process takes is a personal thing and probably can vary quite a lot from person to person.
Regarding reincarnation, the two theories detailed in my introduction post were my two major ones - I'm wary of saying reincarnation does not exist due to a lot of exposure to Buddhism and similar spiritual systems. Other theories or thoughts that I have had concerning my identity include, "Na'vi is the way I like to think of myself - or have chosen to" and "I would categorize myself under the Na'vi label". I can't be one hundred percent sure about any of these things, as they are abstract (possibly spiritual) concepts, and there seems to me to be no absolute beyond my being sure of being Na'vi 'kin (and serious, sincere, and genuine about it).
I've read the Avatar thread. (:

... I never said you couldn't be I just said it seemed highly highly highly highly unlikely. if you saw my post in the avatar thread, you know that I think it's possible there could be something like Na'vi out there but not the exact same thing...

Ah, I have misread you, and I apologize. (:
Edit: To be fair, your first word to me, more or less, was "Poser!" despite a polite opening post.

I do, yes. (: It is no matter (Na'vi are forgiving people when it comes to small things such as this). I hope we will get along better in the future!

You speak intelligently, and I respect that. You also admitted to yourself that this could be psychological, this I also respect. You have defended your own beliefs, while taking others opinions into consideration. Congrats, you're now on my friends list

Welcome to the forum! I hope you like it here!
I'm very interested in your conclusion, what I take issue with is the time in which you've come to this, rather momentous, conclusion. Now I may be a bit behind (as Britain usually has to wait a while before films will come over from America) but Avatar seems like a fairly recent film, so it doesn't seem to me like you have had enough time to fully consider and meditate upon the belief that you are Na'vi.
i cut this short and dragonslorefurry ya gotta work on the ranting thing Quote: rant (rnt) v. rant·ed, rant·ing, rants v.intr. To speak or write in an angry or violent manner; rave. v.tr. To utter or express with violence or extravagance: a dictator who ranted his vitriol onto a captive audience. n. 1. Violent or extravagant speech or writing. 2. A speech or piece of writing that incites anger or violence If what I say is for the purpose of helping someone, and not for the purpose of getting an annoyance off my chest, then it's hardly a rant. it just takes to long and I'm the same guy as on deviant art the user name is my draconic name and if we want to talk off topic lets do it on deviant art instead of ruing this guys topic with a long series of posts and stuff

 Re: Hello, Na'vi Otherkin here
First off welcome to the forum, secondly (and I guess a late warning), get ready for the heat.
I'm not here to attack, before anyone reads this as one, but a few comments on what's been said.
I don't disagree with someone having kinship with something similar to the Na'vi. Reason being, I believe that I am incarnated Angel, if I were raised in an environment devoid of Angels, or perhaps with an entirely different word or concept of Angels, I might have the belief of being that. It is also possible that there is a being similar to Angels, but, since I do not know them I believe myself to be and identify with the most fitting species I know.
I do also take some measure of disagreement with the statement that so many of these other beings people identify with are fictional. Dragons are near culturally universal, as an example, and as such might very well exist somewhere as either a spiritual construct of the collective unconscious or in another plane of existence, if those planes do exist. Fae, Demons, Angels and a laundry list of other beings most often believed mythological while not present on this planet in the form of physical existence or physical evidence that we are aware of, have found their way into our culture and beliefs. To say that these are not real and just as fictional as the Na'vi is to say that God is not real for the same reason. Yes we are open minded (the correct usage of the word, not the curse version that PC-72 suggested), and we are skeptical (as we are logically based).
We are not so open minded as we accept anything and everything fed to us by someone who watched a movie (being so open minded that your brains fall out. On the other hand, we also must remember that we are not so skeptical and closed minded as to believe that that which was said by Humans in story or myth or legend is absolutely false.
So in my conclusion: I wouldn't settle on the Na'vi so much as to take time and heavily evaluate every feeling you have for what it is, look for things with a very skeptical eye because while it is entirely possible that Cameron struck something close to home, it is quite implausible that James Cameron just delivered a quite factual account of a real planet and a real alien species and their exact language, appearance and customs.

 Re: Hello, Na'vi Otherkin here
I really do admire that you have taken the criticism here extremely well. We aren't always exactly the most cuddly of communities, and you have handled this far better than I think many would in your situation.
Although my questions about anatomy and biology were genuine. =( Darn it. Even the Na'vi doesn't know how the Na'vi make babies. *Shakefish* I will find this out! It haunts me! Remember that scene when Jake Sully picks up that massive book entitled "The Na'vi", and chucks it at a scientist? Seriously, when I saw that scene, I was like, "Wait! No, give it to me! I need that book!". I think I have a problem. >.>
Anywho, I did have another question, however, if you would kindly oblige my curiosity, Tirea.
If you believe the Na'vi are a physical race, how do you believe Cameron came upon this information about their society and their planet? Was it divine inspiration? What are your thoughts on this?

Rionquosue: You do not have to quote an entire wall of text just to answer a question or make a point. If you do quote, it would be nice if you would quote only the section that is relevant to what you're saying. Otherwise, it's clogging up the thread.
I would also like to request that you use a spellchecker on your posts, as well as proper grammar.

 Re: Hello, Na'vi Otherkin here
Well, your still here. You impressed me. Your not trolling... Because you know, someone comes to the site saying "Hey, Listen, I'm Na'vi OKAY?" you know it either Feels like your having a stab at some of our beliefs Just doing it for the fun of it Or being a poser or roleplayer Just my observations anyway.
Reading the thread you seem serious. And you seem like..you really do believe that. So, I respect that.
